2. My experience

Alright, here we go — another weekend. No studying today, so I can finally go out and have a blast. At least that was what I thought…

I woke up to a pile of laundry. I made coffee, set the table for one, and told myself today would be different: I would happily finish all the housework by myself.

First, I sorted the clothes into lights and darks and started the washing machine. I wiped the kitchen counters, and while the machine hummed, I swept and mopped the floor. Just then my roommate Tom came back from his run. He stomped in and dropped his jacket on the sofa.

-“Why is the living room wet?” he asked.
-“I mopped.” I said, folding a towel. “But can you hang up your wet jacket instead of leaving it on the couch?”
He rolled his eyes.
-“I was in a rush. You always act like you do everything.”

That pissed me off. I asked him to hang up the clothes to dry, and he did — but while he was hanging them on the balcony, there was a little problem.

❓Guess what happened…

He dropped his only pair of pants off the balcony.
I tried to stay calm. Next I asked him to do the ironing. When I checked my shirt later… it was scorched… My “nice day” was officially ruined.
So I decided we needed a fair split of chores.
I took the deep-clean jobs:
• Mopping the floor
• Doing the laundry
• Wiping the counters and dusting
• Ironing
He agreed to the rest:
• Washing the dishes
• Hanging up laundry
• Cleaning the toilet
• Taking out the garbage

But Tom just couldn’t keep it up. Within a week I moved out and started living alone.
