1. Linking sounds (consonant → vowel)

Pick up your bag. → pi-kup

2. Disappearing sounds (t / d get weak or vanish)

• I don’t know what you mean. → don-know
• Next day was better. → nex day
• I just got home. → jus got
• First time here? → firs time

3. W / Y” sounds appear (intrusive sounds)

Go on ahead. → go-won
Do it now. → do-wit
I agree with you. → ai-ya-gree
She asked again. → she-yasked

4. Weak forms (function words get small)

I want to go home. → I wanna go home
What are you doing? → whatcha doing
Give me a second. → gimme
Have you seen it? → hav-ya
